Divide and Conquer Semantic Web with Modular Ontologies - A Brief Review of Modular Ontology Language Formalisms
نویسندگان
چکیده
Distributed data and knowledge base applications need ontology languages and tools that can support collaborative construction, sharing, and use of large ontologies. Modular ontology languages aim to address this challenge by providing language support for organizing complex ontologies into relatively independent modules, selective sharing of information among ontology modules, and reasoning with multiple ontology modules. This paper summarizes the evolution, language features and semantics of recent modular ontology language proposals, including Distributed Description Logics (DDL),E-Connections and Package-based Description Logics (P-DL) and describes some steps towards a modular ontology language that meets the needs of real-world Semantic Web applications.

Evaluating Formalisms for Modular Ontologies in Distributed Information Systems
Modern semantic technology is one of the necessary supports for the infrastructure of next generation information systems. In particular, large international organizations, which usually have branches around the globe, need to manage web-based, complex, dynamically changing and geographically distributed information. Formalisms for modular ontologies offer the necessary mechanism that is needed...
متن کاملOntology Language Extensions to Support Localized Semantics, Modular Reasoning, and Collaborative Ontology Design and Ontology Reuse
Modular approaches to design and use of ontologies are essential to the success of the Semantic web enterprise. We describe P-OWL (Package-based OWL) which extends OWL, a widely used ontology language that supports modular design, adaptation, use, and reuse of ontologies. P-OWL localizes the semantics of entities and relationships in OWL to modules called packages. P-OWL and the associated tool...
متن کاملPresenting a method for extracting structured domain-dependent information from Farsi Web pages
Extracting structured information about entities from web texts is an important task in web mining, natural language processing, and information extraction. Information extraction is useful in many applications including search engines, question-answering systems, recommender systems, machine translation, etc. An information extraction system aims to identify the entities from the text and extr...

متن کاملAdapt OWL as a Modular Ontology Language
OWL, the most commonly used web ontology language, has limited provision for handling modular ontologies. Specifically, the owl:imports construct for linking ontology modules lacks support for partial reuse of or localized semantics for the linked ontology modules. We propose an alternative to owl:imports, namely, semantic importing, for linking multiple modular ontologies with support for loca...
